Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): The Yin-Yang Theory

Yin and yang are two energies that everything is composed of and this is perceived in traditional Chinese medicine. The yin-yang theory is that they cannot exist without one another and cannot separate and is the principle of independence and inter-connectedness. The yin-yang symbol reflects the relationship between the two. It is impossible to divide the symbol and its two sections always portray both energies.

There are no absolutes in the yin-yang theory. Due to the inseparable relationship between yin and yang if one encounters any type of problem, the other will also be affected. Yin and yang are compared to many other things such as yang related to the daylight hours and the sun whereas yin relates to the moon and stars at night. It is also the yin yang theory that yang is male and yin is female.

Harmony is an essential part of traditional Chinese medicine and therefore must be completely understood as it is vital that as well as remaining in balance, yin and yang must remain in harmony. Harmony is seen as the ultimate goal in TCM whereas balance can be described as a desired state in some parts of the western world. However, TCM has a different theory which states that balance is the first step towards harmony.

A relationship between two separate entities must be perfectly in balance before harmony can be achieved. Two entities can be of the same size and weight and still remain unbalanced. Balance has to do with the relationship between the entities. Any relationship must remain in balance before harmony can be achieved.

In the western world, the condition known as hot flushes can be brought about by a lack of harmony. The reason for this is that sufferers of this complaint have a yang or Qi deficiency if the flushes occur during the day. But if they are experienced at night the cause could be a yin and Qi deficiency. This where Kratom comes in handy in Chinese medicine. The best US kratom vendors can be found at the link.

It is the yin yang theory that when harmony is achieved a blending together occurs and perfection is the result. Harmony occurs naturally in a healthy body and between the body and all forces of nature. Due to this, the body's Qi will respond to the changes in nature brought about by the seasons and weather fluctuation.
